Frequently asked questions

I’m afraid of needles. Will the acupuncture treatment hurt?

We use the world’s skinniest needles in our clinic, even slimmer than most other acupuncture clinics you will find. The treatments are relatively pain free, but some needles come with a momentary slight pinch. Just let us know if you’re sensitive or apprehensive and we will do our best to make the treatment as gentle as possible.

How many treatments will I have to have to help my condition?

Generally it will take about a month of treatment (4-6 visits) to recover from an ailment that has lasted a year. Chinese medicine is a natural medicine, so the effects are gradual, but it is normal for the healing process to be much shorter than this.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s healing response to a particular area of the body. Acupuncture helps send the body’s natural pain relieving agents like hormones, blood cells, and histamine reducing agents into targeted tissues and/or throughout the body. This initiates and aids the body’s ability to heal itself.

What is the herbal medicine used in your clinic, and why are there many herbs used in each formula?

The herbs we use in our clinic are dehydrated herbs that are condensed into a powdered form. We use this form because it is easier and more convenient for our patients to take throughout the day. Many herbs are generally used in a patient’s prescription because the herbs work synergistically with each other, enhancing their medicinal quality. We will never use an endangered or unethically produced plant, mineral, or animal product in our clinic.
